As West Virginia University continues to undergo a period of significant transformation, including the introduction of a new business model, University administration has extended the appointment of Milan Puskar Dean Josh Hall, allowing him to continue leading the John Chambers College of Business and Economics into the future.
Hall, who was first named to a two-year term in 2021, will continue as Chambers College dean through June 30, 2026
An expert in regional economics and institutional analysis and an award-winning professor, Hall served in leadership roles in the Chambers College prior to his appointment as dean as both an associate dean and department chair in the College, as well as a center director.
“Josh is a trusted colleague and a skilled and collaborative leader who brings stability and vision to the College during a time of profound change in higher education and at West Virginia University,” said Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Maryanne Reed. “His commitment to transforming the state’s economy coupled with his student-centered approach make him uniquely positioned to lead the College.”
During his time as department chair of economics, Hall started the online MS in economics degree geared to state and local economic policy, a 3 + 3 program with the College of Law, giving qualified undergraduate students the opportunity to earn their bachelor's degree and law degree in six years instead of seven years. He also increased the number of economics majors and minors.
During his short time in the dean role, Hall has accelerated the momentum of the College. He oversaw the successful move of the business college into the new state-of-the-art Reynolds Hall facility on the Waterfront, led the college through a year of record enrollment growth and secured several significant private gifts for the new building and to support academic programming and student experiences, including the largest gift in College history.
“It is truly an honor to continue to serve the Chambers College as Milan Puskar Dean,” said Hall. “The momentum of the College is strong because of the partnership and energy of our engaged students, faculty, staff and alumni, who believe in the possibilities that a business degree creates for Mountaineers to solve the problems of tomorrow and build a stronger West Virginia. It is my steadfast commitment to continue to build the synergies and support systems that our students need to change the world on the other side of their degrees.”
Hall will be eligible for reappointment in July 2026, following a five-year leadership review as outlined in WVU’s policies and procedures.
