Only licensed MAP users will be able to access Oracle Java beginning next week

Because of licensing changes made by the software vendor, access to Oracle Java is now limited to authorized WVU employees who need to perform certain job functions in MAP.

Oracle Java has been removed from most University-managed computers, and Information Technology Services will begin blocking web downloads on all campuses, including the Health Sciences Center, starting Wednesday, Sept. 14.

Oracle does not require payment to download its Java software, even though it is not free. Blocking downloads is the most effective way to prevent unauthorized costs. ITS cannot block all messages that may encourage you to install Java. However, to ensure continued compliance, all WVU computers will be scanned daily, and any unlicensed installations will be removed remotely each time you log in.

Free alternatives to Oracle Java are available. Corretto Java works well in most applications, and employees may download Corretto Java from the Software Center or the Company Portal.
