Libraries offering Data Services series workshops

The Data Services workshops are designed to provide faculty and students training in data management, software platforms for data visualization and analysis, and finding data resources. To register for these workshops, please follow the links attached to each event. 

Introduction to U.S. Census Data
Participants will be introduced to the various U.S. Bureau of Census surveys and how to access the available demographic data from the surveys using the data platform, census.data.gov. Additionally, participants will learn how to use the library GIS tool, Social Explorer, for demographic mapping and IPUMS to retrieve public use microsample data samples.

Find Treasury Data Resources | Budget, Taxes, and Debt
Participants will get hands-on experience locating data resources from the U.S. Treasury as well as other relevant sources.
Register for the Wednesday, Feb. 23, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. workshop. 

First Steps with R and RStudio
This workshop will introduce participants to using R and RStudio. No prior programming knowledge is required, just a basic understanding of computer files and folders. Participants will need to download and install R prior to the workshop. Both software items are open-source and free to download. Participants will also need to bring their own laptop to the workshop.

Data Analysis and Visualization with R and RStudio
This workshop will introduce participants to R tasks such as reading data, analyzing data, and plotting data. Participants are expected to have attended the First Steps with R and RStudio workshop or to have some basic knowledge of using R. Participants will need to download and install R and RStudio prior to the workshop. Participants will also need to bring their own laptop to the workshop.

R and RStudio Special Topic: Scrapping Twitter
This workshop will introduce participants to using R and RStudio to scrape twitter. Participants are expected to have attended the First Steps with R and RStudio workshop or to have some basic knowledge of using R. Participants will need to download and install R prior to the workshop. Both software items are open-source and free to download. Participants will also need to bring their own laptop to the workshop.

First Steps with using Microsoft Excel for Data Analysis
In this workshop participants will get hands-on experience using Microsoft Excel for data analysis and visualization.

Rand RStudio Special Topic: Using APIs to Download Bulk Federal Data
This workshop will introduce participants to using R and RStudio to pull bulk federal data using APIs. Participants are expected to have attended the First Steps with R and RStudio workshop or to have some basic knowledge of using R. Participants will need to download and install R prior to the workshop. Both software items are open-source and free to download. Participants will also need to bring their own laptop to the workshop.
