Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Meshea L. Poore continues her weekly series of short videos, exploring topics centered on helping members of the WVU community live, learn and work together with care and respect for each other.
This week’s video, released Oct. 12, addresses ethnicity.
“People sometimes equate the terms ‘ethnicity’ and ‘race’ – but they are not the same thing,” said Poore. “Our ethnicities stem from shared social, cultural and historical experiences. Ethnic identities can be a source of pride and belonging. But they can also be a source of conflict and prejudice when they are misunderstood or disrespected.”
The Let’s Talk series, with a new video each Tuesday, addresses a diversity of topics, including equity, xenophobia, and ableism.
