WVU’s Campus Campaign to support the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties launches today and runs through the month of October. While we all faced many challenges last year and continue to do so, WVU faculty, staff and retirees generously donated over $225,000 to the United Way.
You can donate online and opt for a one-time payroll deduction of any amount or a minimum of $1/pay for 26 pay cycles. Additional ways to donate include texting MOUNTAINS2022 to 41444 or by Venmo @UnitedWayMPC.
All contributions to WVU’s United Way campaign stay local. The money helps support 43 programs and 24 organizations in the community. These organizations assist people with healthcare, childcare, youth mentoring, senior programs, mental health programs, disaster response initiatives and healthy lifestyle initiatives, among others; however, these agencies do not have the resources for large fundraising campaigns and rely on WVU’s United Way campaign each year for additional funding.
The overall campaign goal of Monongalia and Preston Counties is $1,200,000.
WVU’s 2020 donations helped to provide:
3,480 visits for substance abuse, mental health case counseling and support.
115 people completed their taxes in Monongalia and Preston counties.
1,000 families in need that received a Thanksgiving meal.
1,910 individuals and families with child abuse/neglect counseling support.
13,000 people served each month through the Helpful Harvest Food Program.
356 citizens with disabilities with help through job creation and retention.
121 elderly, ill or disabled residents who received home health visits/services.
1,789 individuals with job training and employment assistance.
1,585 homeless individuals who received emergency shelter/housing assistance.
