New website connects WVU community to mental health resources, support

students on campus

West Virginia University has launched a new website designed to help students, faculty, staff and others better access campus mental health resources and services and provide guidance to those in need of support and services.

The website, mentalhealth.wvu.edu, features a variety of online resources and what-if scenarios for students, as well as mental health resources and training opportunities for faculty and staff.

Visitors to the website will find easy-to-navigate sections:

This section highlights student scenarios and how to move forward regarding suicidal thoughts, academic struggles, homesickness and other issues.

WVU recognizes that faculty and staff are also experiencing stress, anxiety, depression and other mental health and wellness challenges at greater rates. Additionally, they may need resources to better assist struggling students so the website includes a section to address those issues.

The website is part of an overarching effort by the University to put access to mental health and wellness resources within easier reach for students, faculty and staff. New information will be added over time as WVU works to meet the changing needs of the campus community.

Other recent updates include a redesign of the Carruth Center website, outreach programs such as the Let’s Chat series, the launch of Healthy Minds University and the creation of the Student Wellness and Mental Health Advisory Board which advocates for student-centered wellbeing and serves as an liaison with the Carruth Center, WELLWVU, Campus Recreation and others.

Students are reminded that the Carruth Center has a free, confidential text line where a live, trained crisis counselor is available 24/7 by texting WVU to 741741, or students can also call the Carruth Center at 304-293-4431.
