Encourage students to to join MindFit

bus on campus and student walking

After a hiatus due to COVID restrictions, MindFit’s Cognitive Enhancement unit will be back in action and seeing clients on site this fall, with first priority given to students enrolled in MindFit’s cutting-edge Academic Enhancement program.

MindFit is excited to share the following additions and enhancements to their program:

  • More social events and relationship-building activities

  • Semester kick off events

  • Special events arranged with Adventure WV

  • A de-stress zone—a lounge area where students can stop by during the day to take a minute (or more) to re-center themselves between the hustle and bustle of the academic day

  • Academic workshops facilitated by MindFit staff, as well as other departments from across WVU, covering topics such as:

    • Midterm prep

    • Finals prep

    • Work/life balance as a college student

    • Self-care

    • Resume design

  • Beginning-of-semester 1:1 academic coaching with a member of MindFit Leadership for each student—students can start the semester off right by learning the brass tacks of how to study, when to study, and what academic habits promote the best long-term results

Even during the pandemic where operations shifted to a virtual format for the first time, MindFit students saw their academic performance continue to rise, with participants earning an average semester GPA of 3.10 in fall 2020 and 3.30 in spring 2021. In fact, over the past year, MindFit students have earned passing grades 98% of the time.

We credit this success to the widespread use of MindFit’s personal skill consultations and our innovative approach to academic coaching.
