In recognition of Earth Week 2021 (April 19-23), the Office of Sustainability has compiled a list of virtual and physically distanced activities hosted by various departments across WVU.

Highlights include:

  • Monday, April 19 – Trees and Campus Environment
Throughout the week, participate in the virtual Earth Day 5K. Follow the established 5k route on the Evansdale campus. Participants also are invited to complete a campus sustainability scavenger hunt while on the 5k route. Prizes will be awarded to the top three overall fastest runners who complete the 5k by 7 p.m. on Friday (April 23).

On Monday, Join WVU's Tree Campus Committee at 1 p.m. in front of Colson Hall for WVU’s annual Arbor Day Tree Planting as a new tree is planted on the Downtown campus and learn about what this group is doing to protect and care for campus trees.
  • Tuesday, April 20 – Sustainability at WVU
Join us for a sustainability Campus Conversation via Zoom Webinar. We will talk about the results of recent surveys designed to help us understand sustainability priorities among students and employees, current and upcoming sustainability efforts and our participation in the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System (STARS) program. After the conversation wraps, take some time to green your home office or study area.
  • Wednesday, April 21 – Get Outside and Play
Our campus offers a variety of areas where you can get outside and enjoy the great outdoors. Spend some time taking in the sights of our beautiful campus while spring is in full bloom.
  • Thursday, April 22 (Earth Day) – Sustainable Food
Learn how what you eat affects our planet and how you can measure and shrink your “foodprint.” Then check out what WVU Dining Services is cooking up in recognition of Earth Day.
  • Friday, April 23 – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
The Blue and Gold Mine Sale is quickly approaching. This year’s event will take place at the tent on the south side of Bennett Tower on Saturday, May 15. Wrap up Earth Week 2021 by learning how you can get involved with the sale and identifying items in your residence you may want to donate.

Thank you for doing your part to help gold and blue make green during Earth Week – and every week.
