CampusCup 2021 campaign to promote sustainability, women's health, kicks off today

two years one cup

In celebration of International Women’s Day, the WVU Women’s Resource Center is launching the CampusCup 2021 campaign today (March 8) to help make a sustainable impact on campus and raise awareness about feminine hygiene.

Through this two-week campaign, the WRC is excited to help the WVU community save money and our planet, while becoming a more sustainable, healthier WVU.

Through a partnership with OrganiCup, a sustainability-focused menstrual cup company that makes reusable medical grade silicone menstrual cups to replace pads and tampons, the WRC is offering free OrganiCups to students and discounted cups to faculty and staff from March 8-22. Use code WVU30 for your 30 percent off discount.

To help kick off the campaign, join a virtual discussion "Campus Cup Period Panel: Save Money. Save the Planet" today at 3 p.m. to learn how to use the cup, the pros and cons of the period cup and menstrual hygiene and equity. Panelists include Ixya Vega of Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, Holly McKinney from the LGBTQ+ Center and Chantelle Friend of WELLWVU.

Register for the virtual discussion.

The average person uses 11,000 disposable period products in their lifetime and a medium-sized university (10,000 students) goes through as many as 2.9 million disposables each year. Switching to a reusable product offers a cleaner, healthier and greener option that women can use for years to come while having a minimal impact on the environment.

Find more information about the benefits of menstrual cups, how to sign up for an OrganiCup and when you can pick up your new cup.

The WRC provides a comprehensive list of on-and-off campus resources for women and families. The site includes information on career resources, basic needs, healthcare, dependent care, healthy living, student organizations as well as services for immigrants, the LGBTQ+ community, veterans and women’s rights groups.
