WVU is committed to protecting youth and has launched its latest online Child Abuse Prevention training for faculty, staff, students and volunteers. This training focuses on healthy boundaries and relationships with minors, recognizing abuse and neglect, reporting responsibilities and requirements.
The training provider, Get Inclusive, is the same provider that developed WVU’s COVID-19 safety module, Title IX and other student modules across campus.
WVU Board of Governors 1.7: Rule on Child Protection requires any adult interested in working in or volunteering for university youth programs to complete training and undergo a background check prior to commencement of those programs.
“When you think about colleges or universities the first thing that comes to mind isn’t generally children on campus or child protection,” said Cortney Simmons, educational outreach specialist in the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Office of Equity Assurance. “However, at WVU this is a prime opportunity to connect with youth in their own communities in addition to fulfilling our land-grant mission. The Child Abuse Prevention module prepares faculty, staff, students, and volunteers to engage in scenario-based learning and skill-building activities to identify situations where suspected abuse and neglect could occur.”
