Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Meshea L. Poore continues her weekly series of short videos, exploring topics centered on helping members of the WVU community live, learn and work together with care and respect for each other.
This week’s video, released Feb 16, addresses xenophobia.
“Xenophobia was evident over this past year as some people discriminated against, harassed and even caused harm and injury to Asians and Asian Americans during the COVID-19 pandemic,” Poore said. “This hate perpetuated the false and harmful belief that the Asian and Asian American communities were responsible for the COVID19 pandemic or carried increased risk of infecting others. That was not true then and it is not true now.”
The Let’s Talk series, with a new video each Tuesday, will address a diversity of topics, including self-care, food security, cultural appropriation and intersectionality.
