WVU Hardesty Festival of Ideas to host WVU grad and author

Mary Marantz

The Hardesty Festival of Ideas kicks off its spring semester events with a virtual presentation, giving the University community an opportunity to hear from WVU alumna and 2002 recipient of the Order of Augusta Mary Marantz. She will speak Wednesday, March 3, at 7 p.m. using a Zoom webinar format. A link will be available on the Hardesty Festival of Ideas website.

Author of “Dirt: Growing Strong Roots in What Makes the Broken Beautiful,” Marantz will discuss her journey from growing up in rural West Virginia, being the first to graduate from college at WVU and then obtaining a law degree from Yale to turning down six-figure law firm offers and starting a business with her husband.

Created in 1995 by President Emeritus David C. Hardesty Jr., Festival of Ideas is a speaker series inspired by Hardesty’s time as the WVU’s student body president. The festival aims to bring diverse and dynamic public figures and thought leaders to engage with the campus community and spark dialogue about important issues in modern society.
