If your daily activities or hobbies are affected by pain, loss of mobility, strength, or weight bearing issues or limitations, aquatic therapy sessions at the Student Rec Center pool may help.
The Aquatic Therapy Clinic offers free one-on-one aquatic therapy sessions to adults and children who have a variety of conditions that may benefit from working in the water.
Water therapy can help you prior to a joint replacement, following an injury or if you are experiencing chronic pain. Additionally, athletes in need of improving mobility issues or engaging in cross training may also benefit from aquatic therapy.
To provide the greatest benefits to clients, 30- to 60-minute sessions will be scheduled one to three times per week depending on needs and availability. Space is limited and individuals will be scheduled on a first come, first served basis.
Individuals can schedule sessions from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, and from noon to 4 p.m. on Fridays.
Sessions are free. However, you must enter the facility as a Rec Center or SilverSneakers member or by purchasing a day pass for $10.
Individuals will be asked to complete a short health history and aquatic assessments to identify specific needs. Clients will receive one-on-one, personalized treatment with experienced senior-level exercise physiology students graduating with an emphasis in aquatic therapy. All programming will be supervised by Lori Sherlock.
