As part of its ongoing series of workshops, the Office of the Provost invites all faculty to register for an upcoming workshop to better understand psychological distress and the mental health resources available at WVU on Wednesday, Feb. 3, from 1-2 p.m. via Zoom.
Janie Howsare, director of the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program, will present “Understanding the Mental Health of our Faculty and Staff and Ways to Support Them” for all interested faculty and academic leaders.
The virtual session will define how psychological distress might present and impact job performance for faculty, including a description of “burnout” among college professors and the consequences on physical and mental health. Howsare will provide information regarding de-stigmatization and use of language that is more sensitive and respectful to employees who are experiencing mental health problems. The session will also identify resources and avenues available within WVU for faculty who may need to have a temporary workload reduction to focus on mental health treatment and recovery so that they can return to a level of functioning and job performance without fear of losing their benefits and or employment.
RSVP online for this workshop by Feb. 3.
WVU users can log in using your standard WVU SSO credentials to access the wide spectrum of topics offered.
