Planned Downtown campus power outage scheduled for next Wednesday

West Virginia University downtown campus, red brick buildings

To ensure the continued delivery of reliable electrical service, the WVU  Facilities Management team will work with Mon Power on repairs and maintenance to one of the University’s Downtown electrical substations Wednesday, Dec. 16, from 4:30-8:30 a.m.

This maintenance will result in an approximate four-hour outage of electrical service that will affect most buildings on the Downtown campus. The Evansdale and Health Sciences campuses will not be affected.

In planning for the outage, the Facilities team focused on providing power to the most critical areas (e.g., research labs, locations used for the care of animals, sites with refrigerators and freezers, etc.) on the Downtown campus. Power to all other areas will be turned off during the outage.

Backup power will be provided during the outage to research labs in the following buildings:

  • Brooks Hall

  • Chemistry Research Laboratory

  • Oglebay Hall

Power to all other areas, including the following buildings, will be turned off during the outage:

  • Arnold Hall and Apartments

  • Boreman Hall (North and South)

  • Colson Hall

  • Dadisman Hall

  • Dadisman Annex

  • Hodges Hall

  • John Chambers College of Business and Economics

  • Mountainlair and Parking Garage

  • Stalnaker Hall

  • Stewart Hall

  • Student Services Center

  • WVU Bookstore

Note: The following buildings will not be affected by the outage:

  • Armstrong Hall

  • Chitwood Hall

  • Clark Hall

  • Colson Annex

  • Downtown Campus Library

  • Downtown Chiller Plant

  • Eiesland Hall

  • Elizabeth Moore Hall
