Activate new WVU Login account in Okta as soon as possible after June 1

WVU Login accounts will transition to Okta — a new identity management platform — on Sunday (June 1).

On that date, faculty, staff and students with an active WVU Login account will receive an activation email from Okta at both their primary and personal recovery email addresses.

The work will begin at 12:01 a.m. June 1 and it may take up to 24 hours for all accounts to receive the activation email.

You must follow the instructions in that email to complete the activation process within 90 days to maintain access to WVU systems. This includes setting a new password. ITS strongly recommends activating your account as soon as possible.

Okta requires the use of a personal, non-WVU email recovery account for various functions, including account activation. To ensure WVU has the personal email you want to use, go to login.wvu.edu, select “Manage Account” and verify or change your recovery address by May 30.

Also starting June 1:

  • All new WVU Login accounts for admitted students and new employees will be activated in Okta through an activation email sent to their personal recovery email address on file.

  • All password resets for existing accounts will be managed through Okta.

This transition affects all WVU account holders systemwide, including those with @hsc, @mix and @mail accounts, admitted students, WVU Foundation and Research Corp. employees, Sponsored accounts, Emeritus faculty and staff, non-Emeritus retirees with a @retiree.wvu.edu account and former students and alumni with active MIX (Google Workspace) accounts.
