As a reminder, WVU is encouraging all faculty, staff and students to get an influenza vaccination this fall. In addition to getting a flu shot from your primary care provider, options include on-campus and drive-thru vaccination clinics.

On-Campus Flu Vaccination

Faculty, staff and students who are on campus can receive their flu shot on select days now through Friday, Oct. 30, at the WVU Student Recreation Center

Note: Availability is limited, and you must register in advance for your preferred appointment date/time:

  1. You will register for an appointment via StarRez (WVU’s housing portal): myhousing.wvu.edu

  2. Click the Login button in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. WVU login credentials and a WVUID number are required to register. You can claim your account, reset your password or find your WVUID number at login.wvu.edu.

  3. Select the COVID-19/Flu Shot Appointments option in the upper-left corner of your screen and follow prompts to register for your appointment. After you have registered, you should receive email confirmation of your appointment date/time. You also may want to take a screenshot of the confirmation webpage for your records.

Be sure to wear a mask/face covering, follow WVU’s safety protocols and arrive on time to your appointment. You will enter the Student Recreation Center on the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences side of the building and follow the signage directing you to the flu shot clinic.

Upon your arrival, you will check in and verify your information. You will be asked to provide your employee number (employee) or Mountaineer Card and/or your 800 number (student), so be sure to have them readily available.

Before your appointment, you should review the Vaccine Information Sheet and download and complete the Influenza Vaccine Packet, which includes a consent form with questionnaire and a patient/insurance information form. You should bring your completed forms with you to your appointment to expedite the check-in process. In addition, all patients will be required to present their insurance card and sign a separate consent/HIPAA form as part of the check-in process.

Additional On-Campus (Health Sciences) Flu Vaccination

WVU Medicine Student Health will offer a flu shot clinic at Health Sciences for faculty, staff and students on Wednesday, Oct. 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The clinic will be located in G285B (John Jones B) on the ground floor of Health Sciences South.

The School of Pharmacy also will offer multiple flu shot clinics for faculty and staff throughout October in a tent in the Health Sciences gardens. The current schedule is:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 13, from noon to 2 p.m.

  • Wednesday, Oct. 14, from noon to 2 p.m.

  • Tuesday, Oct. 20, from noon to 2 p.m.

Further, faculty, staff and students can receive flu vaccinations through Student Health Services and Urgent Care locations at the Health and Education Building.

WVU Medicine employees are asked to get a flu shot through the annual flu shot campaign hosted by WVU Medicine and Employee Health. Flu shots are available in the third-floor atrium every weekday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through the end of November.

All employees, physicians, licensed independent practitioners, residents, volunteers, students, contractors and vendors across the WVU Medicine organization are required to receive the vaccine by Wednesday, Dec. 16, unless they have an approved medical or religious exemption.

Drive-Thru Flu Vaccination

Primary care patients of WVU Medicine who are residents of Monongalia or Preston counties are encouraged to take advantage of the drive-thru flu shots offered by WVU Medicine at their University Town Centre clinic now through Saturday, Nov. 14. Note: Patients must be a minimum of five years of age to receive a flu vaccine via the drive-thru clinic.

The drive-thru is by appointment only and is open Monday through Thursday, from 5 to 8 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

To make an appointment, call 855-WVU-CARE (855-988-2273). Patients who already are scheduled to see their primary care provider for a routine visit can receive their flu shot at the same time.

If you currently are in quarantine due to an exposure to someone who tested positive for COVID-19, you should wait until after you are cleared from quarantine before getting your flu vaccination. Further, you should reschedule your appointment if you are not feeling well or exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms on your scheduled vaccination day — regardless of whether you chose the drive-thru or on-campus option.

To reschedule your on-campus appointment, log back into myhousing.wvu.edu, select the Schedule an Appointment option and follow the prompts to cancel your prior appointment and choose a new appointment time. To reschedule your drive-thru vaccination appointment, call 855-WVU-CARE (855-988-2273).

Flu shots are a fully covered service under PEIA and The Health Plan for insured employees, spouses and dependent family members. Flu shots also are covered for students under the Aetna Student Health insurance plan. Those not insured through these providers also may bill their insurance. Note: Cash payment will not be accepted.
