To prevent loss of internet connectivity and other possible problems, students and employees who use personally owned Apple computers for study or work should avoid installing the newest Mac operating system, macOS Big Sur, when it is released.
While we do not know the exact release date, Information Technology Services anticipates that macOS Big Sur will be available sometime in September. All new OS releases create compatibility risks, and this is the first major version update in 20 years. While Big Sur has not yet been tested against all WVU applications, ITS has already identified potential issues with Wi-Fi, AirDrop, Bluetooth and WVU’s Virtual Private Network.
ITS will announce when it is safe to update your personal machine.
The upgrade to macOS Big Sur will be delayed for all WVU-owned computers, and users should not attempt to update those machines.
