Traffic on Monongahela Boulevard will be briefly stopped between 6-8 p.m. Monday (Aug. 31) to support repair work to the hillside along US-19 South at WV 705.
There may be two separate 15-minute traffic stoppages during this time period, and the WVU Police Department will oversee stoppages.
The traffic stoppage is required as a precaution while rock is removed from the hillside in a controlled manner. Drivers should avoid this area Monday evening as traffic delays are likely.
This work is part of remediation efforts to a hillside along Monongahela Boulevard where a boulder fell on Feb. 10 striking a vehicle with fragments and hitting a Personal Rapid Transit car.
The remediation plan involves stabilizing an upper sandstone seam over a 400-foot length and an engineered attenuator barrier fence of 1,600-feet at the bottom of the slope along Monongahela Boulevard to catch rocks that may fall down the hillside.
WVU and the West Virginia Division of Highways appreciate your patience as we work to complete this important project. The overall hillside remediation project is scheduled to be complete by Sept. 10.
