To support repair work to the hillside along US-19 South at WV 705, one northbound lane of Monongahela Boulevard will be closed beginning today (July 16).
The lane closure will be in place through the end of October and affect approximately 1,600 feet of the right-most lane between 8th Street and Evansdale Drive. The lane closure will start north of Advance Auto Parts.
This work is part of remediation efforts to a hillside along Monongahela Boulevard where a boulder fell on Feb. 10, striking a vehicle with fragments and hitting a Personal Rapid Transit car.
The remediation plan involves stabilizing an upper sandstone seam over a 400-foot length and an engineered attenuator barrier fence of 1,600-feet at the bottom of the slope along Monongahela Boulevard to catch any rocks that may fall down the hillside.
