The WVU Humanities Center is accepting proposals for an immediate grant competition, funded by a WVU endowment from the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation. The purpose of this competition is to fund humanities-centered projects that respond to the emerging COVID-19 global pandemic.
Collaborative and interdisciplinary projects are especially encouraged. Submissions are due Monday, May 18 at 11:59 p.m.
Proposals must address their contribution to the humanities, and include a plan of work and academic and/or public outcomes. Projects that fund student researchers will receive priority consideration.
This call is open to full-time faculty members and faculty equivalent academic professionals. Eligible faculty members include tenured or tenure-track, teaching, service, clinical, research, librarian and continuing visiting faculty members. To receive a grant, you must be an affiliate of the Humanities Center, though your affiliate application may be submitted concurrently to your grant proposal. Past recipients of a Humanities Center grant are eligible for funding. Questions about eligibility should be sent to HumanitiesCenter@mail.wvu.edu.
Grants of up to $5,000 may be requested. Grants funded through this special call cannot be used for summer salary for faculty. We encourage you to include student salary in your budget. If you have questions about allowable expenses, contact Lea Herron at ECAS-Research@mail.wvu.edu.

The Humanities Center is working with the West Virginia and Regional History Center on documenting humanities research focusing on Life in the Time of COVID-19. Grantees are strongly encouraged to bring their work to the public and to make it available for posterity by archiving it as part of our partnership with the Libraries’ WVU Community COVID-19 Stories project.
