Celebrate WVU Virtual Earth Week 2020

earth week students

At West Virginia University, we are committed to ensuring a more sustainable future for our students, faculty, staff and citizens of our state by engaging our campus community in meeting WVU’s environmental and conservation goals.

Just because most students are off campus and most faculty and staff are working remotely doesn’t mean we can’t still come together to celebrate Earth Week 2020 (April 20- 24).

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. And in recognition of this milestone, the Office of Sustainability has compiled a list of virtual Earth Week activities hosted by various departments across the University. Highlights include:

  • Monday, April 20 – Get Informed

From podcasts on climate change to video content on your favorite streaming services, we have pulled together several resources to help you learn about the importance of conservation and some of the environmental challenges our world is facing.

  • Tuesday, April 21 – Campus Trees

Follow the Office of Sustainability throughout the day on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to learn about WVU’s urban forest management activities as part of our Tree Campus USA program.

  • Wednesday, April 22 – Earth Day

Even though you are social distancing, we encourage you to get outside to celebrate Earth Day. From gardening to outdoor adventure opportunities, we have several ideas for family-friendly outdoor fun. If you are the indoors type, check out some of the Earth Day themed films offered by the WVU Planetarium you can view from home.

  • Thursday, April 23 – Personal Actions

Spend some time to learn about simple steps you can take to practice sustainability, eat green and reduce waste at home.

  • Friday, April 24 – Get to Work

Wrap up Earth Week 2020 by creating some upcycled crafts and doing a little green spring cleaning. Don’t forget to take the #OneThing4Earth pledge on Twitter.

Thank you for doing your part to help gold and blue make green during Earth Week – and every week.
