All drivers who park in University parking lots must ensure the accuracy of their license plate information in the WVU Parking Portal by Sept. 1.
The Parking Management team has implemented the use of License Plate Recognition technology, which utilizes cameras installed on patrol vehicles to scan license plate information to ensure the vehicle has a permit or paid short-term parking.
This requires drivers to have accurate license plate information on file and license plates to be clearly visible from parking lot aisles.
Effective immediately, if your vehicle has only a rear license plate, you must park with the front of your vehicle facing into the space. This means you should not back into parking spaces or pull through, as doing so may block the view of your license plate.
Vehicles equipped with both front and rear plates may back in or pull through, unless signs in the area indicate otherwise.
Beginning Sept. 2, drivers may begin to receive citations for an obstructed view of their license plate.
The addition of LPR technology will aid in the efficiency of parking enforcement efforts.
The LPR system is integrated with ParkMobile and pay stations across campus, allowing Parking Management employees to drive through parking lots and easily ensure vehicles comply with parking rules.
Moving forward, instead of entering a space number on ParkMobile or at pay stations, drivers will enter their license plate number to pay for short-term parking. Permits should continue to be appropriately displayed while parked.
