The WVU Medicine SANE team and WVU Division of Occupational Therapy received a Faculty Senate Community Engagement grant to support this three-day summit to train sexual assault nurses, law enforcement and patient advocates for trauma informed care and effective responses to sexual assault victims.

This training occurred March 9-11. Participants completed one day of training in the WVU STEPS Center completing simulated patient exams and interviews with gynecological teaching assistants and standardized patients.

Dr. Michael Brumage offered a Keynote presentation on Adverse Childhood Events.  Day two consisted of peer reviews of patient cases with educational theory bursts on specialized topics sprinkled throughout the day. These were provided by Dr. Danielle Davidov, Dr. Amie Ashcraft, Dr. Amy Burt, John Sedoski, Robert Peters and Dr. Cyrus Hajiran.

Last, the participants completed mock trials. Students from WVU Law and the Division of Occupational Therapy were also involved as prosecutors and defense attorneys and the jury, respectively. This endeavor also had great support from The West Virginia Foundation for Rape Information and Services and the Morgantown Police Department.
