Nearly 20 percent of adults in West Virginia have a disability. At WVU, we recognize the value of our faculty and staff with disabilities and the contributions they make.
In compliance with federal requirements and to further our commitment to serving individuals with disabilities, the University is inviting faculty and staff with a disability to self-identify.
Identifying as an individual with a disability is quick and easy, and the information you submit will remain confidential.
How do I know if I have a disability?
You are considered to have a disability if you have a physical or mental impairment or medical condition that substantially limits a major life activity, or if you have a history or record of such an impairment or medical condition.
Examples of disabilities include, but aren’t limited to: deafness, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and muscular dystrophy.
To self-identify as a person with a disability, visit portal.wvu.edu and log in using your WVU credentials Then follow the steps below:
Select the “MyHR” tab.
Select “Disability Status.”
Enter your information and select “Submit.”

We want to hear your story. As part of our efforts to recognize diverse populations and provide them with appropriate services and support, the Office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action recently launched a new occasional story series – called “I Count” where members of our diverse workforce share their experiences working at the University.
If you would like to share your “I Count” feature story, contact the Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action team at EqualOpportunity@mail.wvu.edu.
