Phillips to lead Office of Research Integrity

Trisha Phillips

Trisha Phillips, an associate professor of political science, has been tapped to serve as interim director of the WVU Office of Research Integrity.

Phillips assumed the new leadership role Jan. 3 in an effort to promote research integrity across the WVU campus.

Phillips, who also has a background in philosophy, has served as an Academic Leadership Fellow at WVU, a research ethics advisor to the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and interim executive director of the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics.

“Dr. Phillips brings a wealth of expertise in research ethics that naturally complements our goals and mission at the WVU Research Office,” said Fred King, vice president for research. “Her skillset will bolster our programs and services aimed at maintaining a healthy climate of research ethics and integrity, which ultimately ensures the University’s high-quality research status.”

In her new role, Phillips will lead the effort to conduct WVU’s first research integrity climate assessment, assemble a research integrity advisory committee, and work with colleges and programs to provide research ethics instruction. The Office of Research Integrity plans to offer seminars and courses open to all faculty, staff and students, and program-specific activities upon request. Phillips will also oversee compliance with federal mandates for training in the responsible conduct of research.

Faculty, staff and students interested in serving on the advisory committee or scheduling research ethics instruction for their units can contact Phillips at Trisha.Phillips@mail.wvu.edu.
