Janet Boyles, who has served as the pre-award manager with the West Virginia University Office of Sponsored Programs since 1994, will retire Jan. 31.

Prior to her current position, Boyles worked in various departments throughout the WVU and Health Sciences Center campuses dating back to 1978.

“Janet will be dearly missed, as she has been a loyal Mountaineer for over 40 years,” said Katie Stores, assistant vice president for research administration and director of the OSP. “Her dedication to her work, from mentoring staff and colleagues, reviewing and submitting proposals for funding, advising faculty on procedures and guidelines and coordinating training workshops, among many other leadership activities has been invaluable to the WVU research administration community for 26 years.”

Vice President for Research Fred King noted, “Janet’s dedication to assisting faculty secure financial support for their work is greatly appreciated. The success of our research enterprise arises from the expertise of our faculty but also requires the assistance of dedicated staff such as Janet. We wish her the best in her well-earned retirement.”

During her tenure at the OSP, her unit grew from one to eight team members. Boyles also became a certified research administrator in that time and served in leadership roles in implementing electronic research administration systems. Boyles has always enjoyed working with faculty and staff throughout the University community to develop all aspects of their proposals for external funding.

Boyles began working at WVU in the Division of Forestry. She went on to serve in various roles in the College of Engineering, College of Human Resources and Education, and the School of Medicine.

The WVU Research Office Leadership Team invites the WVU community to join us in celebrating Boyles’ over 40 years of service at a retirement open house Jan. 29, 2020, from 2 to 5 p.m. in 401 of the Chestnut Ridge Research Building.
