Katie Stores will expand her leadership duties at West Virginia University as the new director of the Office of Sponsored Programs in late November.
Stores, who will continue as assistant vice president for research administration at the WVU Research Office, succeeds John Childress, who retires Nov. 26.
The OSP supports the WVU community in acquiring and administering externally funded projects for research, teaching and service. OSP reviews, negotiates, accepts and initiates awards on behalf of the University.
“Dr. Stores has been a tremendous asset in enhancing the University’s research enterprise,” said Fred King, vice president for research. “We are grateful that she’s taking on the additional responsibility of leading our Office of Sponsored Programs. Her experience and acumen will ensure that the Office provides the highest level of service to the University’s research community.”
Stores joined the Research Office in November 2018. Beforehand, she served the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences for more than 12 years, most recently as its associate dean for external research development. Prior to WVU, she was employed with the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md. where she was a United States Department of Health and Human Services Emerging Leader. She has also served as a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Fellow.
In her current role as assistant vice president for research administration, Stores guides the policies, planning and decision-making workflows and documentation related to business operations, contractual relationships and technology support to advance organizational goals and assist the research community.
