Free tickets available for Campus Read author appearance

tara westover

Tara Westover, the best-selling author of “Educated: A Memoir,” is expected to draw a large audience when she comes to campus Nov. 11 as part of the Hardesty Festival of Ideas. She will speak at 7:30 p.m. in the Mountainlair Ballrooms.

To accommodate the demand, University Events is offering free tickets to WVU students until Oct. 31. On Nov. 1, the remaining seats will be offered to faculty, staff and the public

Westover’s inspiring journey to get an education has inspired readers worldwide. She was the daughter of survivalists in rural Idaho who were opposed to public education but didn’t provide her adequate home schooling. Despite the odds, she managed to teach herself enough mathematics, grammar and science to get into Brigham Young University and later Cambridge and Harvard. Her story is one that talks about what it takes and what it costs to be educated.
