New Adobe contract will let employees install Creative Cloud products on multiple devices

WVU is renewing its contract with Adobe for one year, and Creative Cloud products will continue to be available in labs and classrooms, and on other WVU-owned machines for the coming academic year.

The transition to a new licensing structure will require some changes before Nov. 30. It also eliminates the need for employees to purchase personal licenses, which Information Technology Services will stop selling on Sunday, Aug. 11.

Before the end of November, the 2018 version of Creative Cloud will be removed from all WVU-owned machines and replaced with the 2019 Adobe Desktop Application, which will let you choose the products you want to install. ITS will deploy the application as soon as it is technically feasible and provide any necessary instructions.

Until then, faculty and staff may continue to install Creative Cloud 2018 on WVU-owned computers by visiting the Software Center (for Windows machines) or Self-Service (for Macs). However, anyone who needs immediate access to the 2019 version will have to purchase it independently.

Once WVU has upgraded to the 2019 version, employees will get two activations. That means you will be able to install and activate one copy on a work machine and on a personal machine, if desired. If you attempt to activate a third copy, however, you will be prompted to deactivate a copy elsewhere. Should you want to install the software on more than two laptops or desktop machines, you may do so; however, only two copies may be active simultaneously.

Mid-semester updates are unavoidable because of the complex and extended negotiations that ITS and Procurement conducted with Adobe in an attempt to minimize price increases. The 2019 suite of products will mirror the current services and feature a few additions, including Adobe XD, Adobe Rush and new fonts.

We will provide periodic updates on the deployment of Creative Cloud 2019 as our implementation plan is finalized. Please direct questions to software@mail.wvu.edu.
