In addition to serving as a communications officer for the West Virginia University Police Department, Ben Mitter also enjoys graphic design work.

And one of his designs recently was selected by the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials International to be featured on the official t-shirt for their upcoming conference.

Founded in 1935 and 25,000 members strong, APCO is the world’s oldest and largest organization of public safety communications professionals.

The organization’s annual conference typically draws more than 5,500 attendees, including frontline telecommunicators, communication center managers and public safety communications equipment and services providers.

APCO 2019 will take place Aug. 11–14, in Baltimore, Maryland, and attendees will receive an official t-shirt for the event featuring Mitter’s design.

APCO members were asked to submit designs for the event’s official t-shirt earlier this year. Mitter’s design was chosen as a finalist, and APCO members voted online to select his design as the winner.

“We are so proud of Ben for winning the contest,” University Police Communications Division Manager Theresa Jackson said. “We are excited the WVU Police Communications team will be represented at the conference this year and will get to wear the official t-shirts bearing Ben’s design.”
