West Virginia University’s inaugural Research Week celebration will continue Thursday (April 4) with nine finalists competing in the Three-Minute Thesis Grand Finale. This competition challenges doctoral students to present their research topic and its significance in three minutes and using just one slide. The 3MT competition develops academic, presentation, and research communication skills, as well as supports the development of graduate students' capacity to succinctly communicate their research to a non-specialist audience.

The event will be held in the Mountainlair Ballrooms at 6 p.m. Each competitor will present their research and the judges will choose first, second, and third place winners. The audience will also have the opportunity to participate by voting on a People’s Choice Winner. Come join us in celebrating the groundbreaking research activities of our graduate students!

Grand Finale Prizes:

  • First place prize: $2,000

  • Second place prize: $1,000

  • Third place prize: $500

  • People’s Choice prize: $250 (All audience members who attend the final competition will be invited to cast a single vote)

  • Each finalist who does not win a prize will receive $50
