After 32 years of working to advance student recreation and physical activity at West Virginia University, Bruce Brubaker will retire May 1. The university community is invited to join in celebrating his achievements and wishing him well Friday (April 5) from 4-6 p.m. at the Student Recreation Center.
Brubaker has overseen WVU Intramural and Campus Sports, a unit within the Division of Student Life, since 1986. During his tenure, he has, among other achievements, grown the number of club sports teams from 11 to 56 and pioneered the Athletic Training program for many of the club and intramural competitions.
Brubaker also serves an usher for the West Virginia Black Bears, instructor for the CPASS Basic Instruction Program, and for more than 30 years he has served as an official for the Cheat Lake Youth Basketball Association.
In 2015, the Black Bears named him Employee of the Year.
Following his retirement, he will continue his roles with the Black Bears and Cheat Lake Youth Basketball Association.
