University flood donation drive planned today at Coliseum

To provide support to state residents after flash flooding this past weekend, WVU Land-Grant and Community Outreach — part of Government Relations — will collect donations of cleaning supplies today (June 18) in the Coliseum parking lot.

Members of the University community can drop off donations until 6 p.m. or until the trucks are full.

On Thursday (June 19), the donated cleaning supplies will be delivered to the Wheeling area by student and staff volunteers who will be assisting with clean-up efforts.

A separate group will be supporting flood recovery efforts in Marion County Thursday as well.

Needed items include bleach, gloves, masks, brooms, mops, water, brushes, buckets, towels and other supplies as follows:

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• N95 or KN95 masks
• Safety goggles or face shields
• Rubber gloves (heavy-duty and disposable)
• Work gloves (leather or waterproof)
• Tyvek suits or disposable coveralls
• Rubber boots (preferably steel-toe)

Cleaning and Sanitation Supplies
• Heavy-duty contractor trash bags
• Bleach and disinfectants (like Pine-Sol or Shockwave)
• Mold and mildew remover
• Buckets and mops
• Scrub brushes (large and small)
• Sponges and rags
• Spray bottles
• Paper towels

Tools and Equipment
• Shovels (flat and spade)
• Push brooms
• Crowbars/pry bars
• Utility knives and replacement blades
• Sledgehammers
• Wet/dry shop vacs (with filters)
• Extension cords (outdoor rated)
• Portable work lights or headlamps (battery-powered or rechargeable)

Other specifically requested items include the following:

• Large floor squeegees
• First Aid kits
• Sunblock
• Bug spray
• Head lamps
• Large pump spray bottles (like you find in the garden center)
• Plastic totes
• Clotheslines
• Clothespins
• Laundry detergent
• Ziplock bags (especially large ones and sandwich size)
• Baby wipes/Wet Ones
• Dehumidifiers
