WVU provides update after recent ‘campus carry’ Campus Conversations

As House Bill 2519, which would permit concealed weapons to be carried on campus by concealed weapons license holders, makes its way through the state Legislature, West Virginia University continues to provide updates to the campus community. The bill is currently on its way to consideration in the full House of Delegates.

The latest occurred Thursday as the third Campus Conversation was held in the Mountainlair.

The events were led by Vice President of Strategic Initiatives Rob Alsop; Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Joyce McConnell; and University Police Chief W.P. Chedester.

Some faculty, staff and students expressed an interest in traveling to the State Capitol to share their thoughts on the legislation. If they choose to do this, faculty and staff should work with their supervisors. Students must work with professors or academic advisors. Visit the West Virginia Legislature website for contact information to contact local representatives.

An updated ‘campus carry’ FAQ is available at the WVU Government Relations website.

Additionally, faculty, staff and students are encouraged to visit bureaucracybusters.wvu.edu/campus-conversations for more information on the recent Campus Conversations.

Questions or concerns may also be shared via campusconversations@mail.wvu.edu.

The University will continue to engage with the campus community for feedback and to provide additional information in future editions of Under the Dome and MOUNTAINEER E-News.
