The University community is invited to attend a colloquium presented by Dr. Dipanjan Mazumdar, Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, on Thursday (Feb. 22) at 3:30 p.m. in G09 White Hall. Dr. Mazumdar will speak on, "Growth and Physical Properties of Novel Electronic and Spintronic Materials."

 

A School of Medicine alumnus has established a scholarship honoring Rashida Khakoo, MD, professor and infectious disease section chief within the School of Medicine. John Holloway, MD, a 1979 graduate of the School of Medicine, said Khakoo had a tremendous impact on him and his medical career.

After having their tonsils removed, patients often can’t leave the hospital for six hours, even if they bounce back from surgery sooner. Hospital policy commonly mandates a six-hour recovery time. But research led by Habib Zalzal, a resident in the West Virginia University School of Medicine, suggests that not all tonsillectomy patients have to wait that long.

The volleyball team announced its 2018 camp dates, as third-year coach Reed Sunahara and his staff will hold a variety of camps throughout the summer. Two three-day camps, two one-day camps and one middle school all-skills camp will be offered. Of note, each camp session will be held at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown.

The swimming and diving teams travel to Austin, Texas, to compete at the 2018 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championship, from today through Saturday (Feb. 21-24), at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.

The South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame announced this week the induction of Sammie Henson, head coach for the West Virginia University wrestling team, into the class of 2018.
