Paul Cassak, associate professor of Physics and Astronomy in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences has been named West Virginia University’s 2017-2018 Benedum Distinguished Scholar in Physical Sciences and Technology. This designation is intended to recognize and reward WVU faculty who exemplify distinction in research, scholarship or creative activity.

Student musicians will advance to the national level of Music Teachers National Association performance competition later this month. The Prometheus String Quartet earned their spot at the finals after winning the eastern division semi-finals held at WVU. The group is comprised of School of Music students Elijah Bui – violin, Inwood; Robert Leong – violin, Fredericksburg, Virginia; Olivia Boughton – viola, Charleston; and Yusef Ibrahim – cello, Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Antar Jutla, assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering at West Virginia University, has earned a prestigious CAREER award from the National Science Foundation for his research on how extreme events and enhanced climatic variability impact the emergence of water-borne pathogens that cause infection in humans. The award comes with nearly $500,000 in funding over a five-year period.
