Install free Sophos anti-virus on personal devices; Kaspersky expires August 2019

Information Technology Services recommends that employees and students install WVU’s new anti-virus software, Sophos, on personally owned computers to ensure uninterrupted protection. Download it for free. Use your WVU email to set up a Sophos account and install it on as many as three personally-owned devices.

Sophos is replacing Kaspersky under a new three-year agreement. If you currently have Kaspersky installed, you will need to replace it by August 2019. Kaspersky will continue to work until then. After Aug. 1, 2019, however, Kaspersky will charge for the protection. Sophos will continue to be free.

ITS is installing Sophos on University-owned machines in close coordination with college and division IT directors. Employees should NOT independently remove their current anti-virus protection or install Sophos on WVU machines. Local IT managers will coordinate the change.
