Gene Vance Jr. Day to be observed on Armed Forces Day

The University community is invited to join in honoring fallen and wounded soldiers during the 7th annual Gene Vance Jr. Day Saturday (May 19) at the Monongalia County Courthouse Plaza. Live music will begin at 10 a.m. A remembrance ceremony will take place at 11 a.m.

Sgt. Vance was killed in action May 19, 2002 during Operation Enduring Freedom when his unit came under fire while on patrol in eastern Afghanistan. Despite his critical injuries, Sgt.
