West Virginia University has adopted a new academic suspension policy that aligns with the Satisfactory Academic Progress financial aid policy. Under the new policy in place on the Morgantown campus, students will file financial and academic appeals through one application.
Undergraduate students must maintain a 2.0 to be in good academic standing. The previous suspension policy varied GPA requirements based on a student’s completed credit hours. The new policy, rolled out in January, requires a 2.0 across all student levels and will first impact students at the conclusion of the Spring 2018 term.
Students at risk for academic probation upon completion of the Fall 2017 term and those who face possible suspension at the conclusion of the Spring 2018 term should immediately seek out their advisors to discuss resources and ways to improve their overall GPA. Students are also encouraged to review the suspension policy and appeal process.
Additional resources are available through the Office of Student Success. The resources include free tutoring by appointment or during designated drop-in tutoring times. Tutoring is available on both the Evansdale and downtown campuses. Additional information can be found here.
Academic probation and/or suspension may significantly impact a student’s financial aid package. For more information regarding financial aid and the associated GPA requirements, visit the Student Financial Support and Services website.
