Learn about and sign up for two-factor authentication at ITS information booths April 10-19

Information Technology Services will be at various locations April 10-19 to demonstrate and help with sign-up for two-factor authentication. To help protect the security of personal and sensitive information in WVU systems, all staff must enroll by April 27. All students must be enrolled by Aug. 31.

ITS staff will also be offering a small prize to anyone who lets us swipe your Mountaineer ID Card and email you instructions to enroll later. Stop by any of the following places.

  • Tuesday (April 10) 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Mountainlair near Hatfields

  • Wednesday (April 11) noon to 3 p.m., Engineering Sciences Building Lobby

  • Thursday (April 12) 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Law School Lobby

  • Monday (April 16) noon to 6 p.m., Rec Center Entryway

  • Tuesday (April 17) 9 a.m. to noon, Creative Arts Center Lobby

  • Wednesday (April 18) 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Mountainlair near Hatfields

Two-factor authentication is a second layer of security besides your password. It requires you to prove it’s you with two things – something you know and something you have – to gain access to sensitive data.

To enroll, go to login.wvu.edu and select “My Login.” Enter your credentials, click “Enroll in Duo 2-Factor” and follow the steps to add your mobile device. Be prepared to download the free Duo Mobile smart phone app during this process.

Setup is fast and easy, and about 9,000 phones are already enrolled in WVU’s program. The app uses no cellular data, so there is no cost to employees or students. The use of the phone for authentication is minimal, requiring only a few seconds when you log into a secure system. For security and cyber liability insurance reasons, no group of staff and no locations are exempt from this initiative.

If you don’t have a smart phone, speak to your supervisor about hardware alternatives that are available in Mountaineer Marketplace using either state and WVU Research Corp. Just look for the 2 Factor Hardware button. All Barnes & Noble campus bookstores sell devices to people who are using personal funds.
