Public comment will be accepted on proposed updates to University email policy until April 5

Between now and April 5, faculty, staff and students can review and comment on proposed updates to the WVU Email Policy. This policy would require that all University business be conducted using official email accounts, meaning only those created by either Information Technology Services or Health Sciences Center ITS.

This policy also would, among other things, prohibit the use of WVU email accounts to market unapproved third-party services, and require security training for people whose accounts are repeatedly compromised.

You may view the proposed policy on the ITS Governance webpage in the Policies Under Review section. WVU Login credentials are required.

The proposed policy also reiterates the Acceptable Use of Data and Technology Resources Policy. That document explicitly states that technology resources, including email accounts, are University property and are monitored for compliance with applicable laws and policies. No employee or student should expect complete confidentiality or privacy when using University email.

Questions or comments regarding the proposed Email Policy can be submitted to the ITS Information Security team at InfoSec@mail.wvu.edu by 11:59 p.m. on April 5.
