Silicon Valley legend John Chambers discusses the New Digital Era as part of Festival of Ideas

John Chambers

The David C. Hardesty Jr. Festival of Ideas and the College of Business and Economics invite you to join John Chambers as he discusses the New Digital Era and the Implications for Education Oct. 27 at 11 a.m. in the Mountainlair ballrooms.

In today’s uncertain global business climate, digitization is one economic promise that holds true. The economic benefits for those who take advantage of the new Digital Era are becoming increasingly apparent: it’s estimated to generate $19 trillion in economic value over the next decade and is the foundation for inclusive growth around the world. Educating and reskilling our current and future workforce with digital skills for the jobs of the future is more important today than ever before.

Chambers is the executive chairman of the Board of Directors of Cisco Systems. He joined Cisco in 1991 but recently announced his retirement thus ending his two-decade-plus reign at the company. Under Chambers as CEO, Cisco’s annual sales rockets from $1.2 billion in 1995 to nearly $50 billion in 2015.

Chambers holds a Bachelor of Science / Bachelor of Arts degree in business and a law degree from WVU and a master of business administration degree in finance and management from Indiana University.
