West Virginia landscape  

With a rising interest in establishing agricultural enterprises on mined lands, West Virginia University and the West Virginia Coal Association are teaming up to share some profitable information with West Virginia landowners. The two organizations will host a workshop, “Income Opportunities on Reclaimed Mine Lands in West Virginia,” at the Charleston Civic Center Jan. 29, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Faculty from the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences will host a workshop focused on sport and coaching science and long-term athlete development. Strength and conditioning coaches and educators will provide scientific and applied based presentations and roundtable discussions on Feb. 3, 8 a.m.to 5 p.m. in the WVU Mountainlair Gold and Blue rooms.

Alexander Rehding, Fanny Peabody Professor of Music at Harvard University, will offer a lecture titled “A Ninth for the New Millenium” at the Creative Arts Center on Jan. 22. This lecture, which will begin at 4 p.m. in Bloch Learning and Performance Hall, Room 200A, is free and open to the public.

Front Line Professionals meeting  

Join us today (Jan. 16) from noon to 1 p.m. at the Mountainlair Shenandoah Room for the next Front Line Professionals meeting. Meetings are open to all WVU employees and provide a chance to network, learn new information and get up-to-date on initiatives and happenings at WVU.

Ali Rezai  

Dr. Ali Rezai will be the featured guest at a WVU Medicine - Health Sciences Town Hall from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday (Jan. 17) in the Okey Patteson Auditorium at the Health Sciences Center.

4H code camp  

West Virginia youths will get a chance to tap into the technological future as part of Google’s “4-H Computer Science Career Pathway” program. Last year Google awarded $1.5 million to 4-H programs in 22 states, including West Virginia, to help young people learn more about this exciting field. WVU Extension Service is using the grant to host a first-ever 4-H Code Camp at WVU Jackson’s Mill Feb. 23-25 to help area youths get a head start in learning these critical skills.
