The Rural Track in the School of Medicine has grown from three to 31 students and has produced 64 graduates under the guidance of Healther Hanks, program specialist. Hanks is passionate about transforming rural health care and takes pride in watching students return to their communities as compassionate doctors.
Utilizing the latest advances in the robotic cardiac platform developed and led by Dr. Vinay Badhwar, heart surgeons at WVU Medicine have now performed the first combined valve replacement and coronary artery bypass operation, potentially signaling a new pathway for an expansion of heart surgery done robotically.
A recent School of Dentistry and School of Medicine collaborative session provided the opportunity to improve care for the state’s youngest citizens, focusing on dental caries risk, assessment and fluoride varnish for children.
