WVU Libraries is offering three Research Commons workshops on using text mining with HathiTrust, a repository of more than 17 million digitized items. This massive collection of text is available for computational text mining, primarily through the tools and services of the HathiTrust Research Center. This half-day workshop will be held Nov. 5 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Downtown Campus Library, Room 2036. Registration is required.

Research into young people’s drinking habits tends to focus on high school and college students. Middle school students are rarely the subject. Yet they are “at this critical age for substance use initiation,” according to Alfgeir Kristjansson, an associate professor in the School of Public Health.
Physics graduate student, Mohammad Barani, recently received the Newkirk Fellowship awarded by the High Altitude Observatory of the National Center for Atmospheric Research. Newkirk Fellowship is one of the most prestigious fellowships in the field of space plasma physics, which is in honor of Gordon A. Newkirk Jr. (1928-1985), a famous astrophysicist whose contribution to balloon observations was a groundwork in space-born experiments.
WVCTSI is celebrating the kick-off of the Clinical Trials Center of Excellence with an open house event today (Oct. 21) from 4 - 6 p.m. in room G151 of the WVU Health Sciences Center's Erma Byrd Biomedical Research Building. The open house will give attendees a chance to learn about the new center, meet the team, and learn about updates to policies and procedures.
The Research Office will host a Sustainability Speed Networking Event Nov. 5 from 2-4 p.m. in the Advanced Engineering Research Building room 120 on the Evansdale Campus.
The West Virginia Water Research Institute is requesting proposals for research expected to be funded March 1, 2020 through Feb. 28, 2021. Funding selected proposals is dependent upon the availability of funds. It is expected that three-to-five projects will be funded in the range of $10,000 – $20,000 each. It is expected that approximately $70,000 will be available for new projects in 2020.
