The National Science Foundation has awarded a three-year, $219,263-grant to Amy Hessl, professor in the Department of Geology and Geography, to reconstruct the history of the Southern Annular Mode, over the last 2,000 years. Hessl and her research team will study the movement of a westerly wind belt circling Antarctica that influences Southern Hemisphere climate, carbon and heat uptake and Antarctic ice melt.
Faculty in the arts and humanities are invited to apply for a new(ish) funding opportunity sponsored by the Office of Global Affairs and the Office of Research. In conjunction with São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) in Brazil, we invite applications that promote the engagement of researchers in higher education and research institutions in the State of São Paulo in partnership with WVU to: develop ongoing and new research/creative work projects and work cooperatively, aiming at the elaboration of joint projects for medium and long term. Applications are due April 29.
WVCTSI is seeking abstracts for poster and possible oral presentations at the 2019 Annual Meeting taking place April 2-3 at the Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs. Submissions should exemplify innovative clinical and translational research happening across the state. Anyone interested should submit abstracts by Feb.15. Those selected to present will be notified by Feb. 26.
Any investigator at an accredited institution of higher learning in the United States is eligible to apply for a grant through a Water Research Institute or Center established under the provisions of the Water Resources Research Act of 1984, as amended. Proposals involving substantial collaboration between the USGS and university scientists are encouraged. Proposals may be for projects of 1 to 3 years in duration and may request up to $250,000 in federal funds. Successful applicants must match each dollar of the federal grant with one dollar from non-federal sources.
A career- and season-best performance from sophomore David Koenders on Feb. 9 helped the No. 2-ranked rifle team claim its sixth consecutive Great America Rifle Conference regular-season title. In turn, Koenders has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.
