Just over a week ago, the WVU Club Cricket team defeated the NJIT Highlanders to win the 2019 American College Cricket National Championship. This championship is the biggest achievement a university cricket team can earn in the United States. The Mountaineers returned from the tournament in Lauderhill, Florida with decisive victories over the University of Maryland, Northeastern University, University of Alabama Huntsville and Virginia Tech.
With their first-place wins, WVU News students Megan Weissend (Best All-Around Television Newscast), Macy Senge (Best All-Around Television News Magazine), Julia Mellett (Television Sports Reporting) and Regan Blaha (Television General News Reporting) will compete at the national level among other regional winners from the 12 SPJ regions.
Kristen Dieffenbach, associate professor, athletic coaching education, will speak on behalf of the U.S. Center for Coaching Excellence in Washington D.C.during the National Youth Sports Strategy Listening Session Thursday (April 4). Advanced registration is required for the webcast. Dieffenbach's presentation is scheduled at 2:15-2:30 p.m. and will highlight coaching strategies.
The school joins with the American Public Health Association this week (April 1-5) in celebrating the power of prevention, advocating for healthy and fair policies, sharing strategies for successful partnerships and championing the role of a strong public health system.
