Two students with a vested interest in bettering the human condition will spend their final two years as undergraduates conducting funded research as WVU’s first two Beckman Scholars. Abreanne Andlinger, a biology junior from Moundsville, and Kelcie Britton, an immunology and medical microbiology junior from Morgantown, will also receive mentorship, training and the skills to become future scientific leaders and innovators under the Program.

Fireworks-related injuries in West Virginia have shot up 40 percent since a 2016 state law liberalized the sale of certain fireworks, categorized as “Class C” or “1.4G,” according to Toni Marie Rudisill, research assistant professor at the WVU School of Public Health.
