2021 Giggenbach Barnett Unger  

After more than 14 years, Nathaniel Barnett, a client of the West Virginia Innocence Project Law Clinic at the West Virginia University College of Law, has walked away from the Cabell County Courthouse in Huntington, a completely free man. On Oct. 5, the state dismissed murder charges against him because DNA testing identified the actual perpetrator.

The Eberly College of Arts and Sciences is pleased to invite faculty, staff, students and the community to the first Eberly Roundtable Wednesday, Oct. 13. This all-day event will take place in the Shenandoah Room of the Mountainlair and on Zoom. The theme is “A Coming Together.”

Halloween with the Horses  

Spooky season is right around the corner – and so is Halloween with the Horses. Hosted by the West Virginia University Collegiate Horsemen’s Association, the event is scheduled for 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at the J.W. Ruby Research Farm in Reedsville.

The College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences will honor four graduates and name the Legacy Award recipient during its 2021 Hall of Fame Ceremony, Oct. 15, via a virtual ceremony on Zoom. The Hall of Fame inductees are Herbert K. Amato, Dana D. Brooks, Joseph A. Martin and Catherine “Cathy” E. Parson. The College will honor Daniel F. Mahony with the Legacy Award.

First Amendment events  

As part of this year’s First Amendment Day, which occurs annually on Sept. 25, College of Media students in Martin Hall Agency gathered information about WVU students’ knowledge of the amendment and how they felt about their rights on campus. This research will help inform a year-long series of events around the First Amendment.
